How long does insurance take to pay out on a roof claim in Georgia?
Short answer. Georgia rules require an insurer to acknowledge a claim within 15 days, explain any delay in deciding it, and pay within 10 days once coverage is confirmed and the amount is agreed. On a typical roof claim the first check often arrives within a few weeks of the adjuster's inspection, and the depreciation check follows the finished job.
The Georgia clock
- 15 days to acknowledge your claim and send any forms you need, under Georgia's claim settlement rules (Rule 120-2-52-.03).
- Deciding coverage. If the insurer needs more time than the rule allows, it must tell you why and estimate how long. In total it generally has no more than 60 days from notice to accept or deny, unless the file shows you have not supplied information it asked for.
- 10 days to pay once coverage is confirmed and the amount is determined and not in dispute.
What a real roof claim looks like
- Report the claim and get a claim number.
- Adjuster inspection, anywhere from a few days to several weeks out after a large storm.
- Estimate and first check, often within days to a couple of weeks after the inspection.
- Mortgage company endorsement, which can add weeks if the lender's loss draft department holds the funds.
- Roof installed, invoice submitted, depreciation check released.
When it drags
Keep a dated log of every call and email, and ask in writing what is still needed. If an undisputed amount is not paid, Georgia's bad faith law and a complaint to the Insurance Commissioner are the escalation tools. For the whole storm to new roof picture, see the Georgia roof claim timeline.
