Can you get a roofing insurance quote online?
What an online quote can and cannot do
Online roof quote tools measure your roof from aerial images and multiply the area by a local price range. That works for a rough budget on a roof you are replacing because of age. It does not work for an insurance claim, because a claim turns on damage, and hail bruises, cracked mats, lifted tabs and dented vents are invisible from above. Two homes with the same square footage can have completely different claim outcomes.
Starting the claim online
Most carriers let you report a claim through their website or app. You will usually be asked for:
- The date of loss, meaning the specific storm.
- A short description of the damage and any interior leaks.
- Photos, which you should take from the ground or a ladder, not by walking a steep roof.
- Whether temporary repairs such as a tarp were needed.
After that, the carrier assigns an adjuster who inspects in person, or sometimes asks a third party inspector or drone service to collect photos first. The estimate that follows, not any online number, determines your payment.
A better order of operations
Many homeowners get a free roof inspection before filing, so they know whether there is real storm damage worth a claim. That avoids filing on a roof that only has wear, which can still show up on your claims history.
