How do you choose a reputable roofing company for an insurance claim?
Short answer. Look for a local company with a long track record, verifiable reviews, proper licensing and insurance, and real insurance claim experience, and avoid anyone who offers to cover your deductible, asks you to sign over your claim, or pressures you to sign at the door. A reputable roofer documents the damage first and lets you decide.
Green flags
- Local and established. A physical address in your region and years of work you can check.
- Reviews you can read. A steady record across many reviews, with thoughtful responses to problems.
- Claim experience. Knows how adjusters inspect, attends the inspection, reads Xactimate estimates, and supplements missing items with photos and documentation.
- Clear paperwork. A written contract with scope, price structure, payment schedule, and a plain explanation of your right to cancel if the claim is denied.
- Written warranties. A workmanship warranty from the company plus the manufacturer's warranty, with manufacturer certification where available.
- An honest no. Will tell you when damage does not justify a claim.
Red flags
- Offers to waive, rebate, or absorb your deductible, which is illegal in Georgia
- Pushes you to sign over your insurance proceeds at the door, which Georgia bars within a year of a declared disaster; see assignment of benefits in Georgia
- Pressure to sign the same day, before any inspection
- Demands full payment up front
- Out of state plates, no local address, and a phone number that keeps changing
- Claims to negotiate your claim for you, which in Georgia only a licensed public adjuster may do; see public adjuster versus roofer
You choose, not the insurer
Your insurer may suggest contractors, but you are free to hire the roofer you trust. Get the inspection, read the reviews, and compare how each company explains your estimate. More warning signs are in storm chaser scams, and you can read what Robust Roofing's customers say on its reviews page.
