What should a roofing insurance quote sample include?
The scope section
- Measurements: total squares, pitch, and linear feet of ridge, hips, valleys, eaves and rakes.
- Tear off: how many layers are being removed and where debris goes.
- Decking: how damaged or rotten boards found during tear off are documented and billed.
- Underlayment: synthetic or felt, plus ice and water barrier in valleys and around penetrations.
- Metal: drip edge, step and counter flashing, valley metal if used.
- Shingles: manufacturer, product line and color, plus starter and ridge cap from the same system.
- Ventilation: ridge vent or box vents, and new pipe boots.
- Permit and cleanup: who pulls the permit and how nails are swept from the yard.
The money section
On an insurance job the price should match the carrier's approved scope plus any supplements. Payment terms commonly follow the claim: your deductible and the first actual cash value check at or after installation, and the recoverable depreciation after the final invoice is sent. Upgrades you choose, such as a better shingle line, should be listed separately with their own price.
Protections to look for
Georgia law lets you cancel a roofing contract that depends on insurance if the claim is denied; the contract should explain the cancellation window (see O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.12). Avoid any quote that mentions absorbing or rebating your deductible, which is illegal here, and read assignment of benefits in Georgia before signing anything that redirects your claim money.
