Roof Claim Answers

How do you get a roof claim approved?

Short answer. A roof claim gets approved when the evidence shows a covered storm caused functional damage: a specific date of loss, hail or wind damage documented on each slope, dents on soft metals that confirm the storm, and photos taken before any repair. Having a knowledgeable roofer at the adjuster's inspection and answering every request quickly also help. No honest approach guarantees approval, but evidence decides most claims.

Build the evidence before you file

  1. Date of loss. Match your damage to a storm with hail or wind reports near your address. See date of loss.
  2. Slope by slope damage. Hail hits are counted in test squares; wind damage shows as creased, torn or missing shingles.
  3. Collateral damage. Dented gutters, downspouts, vents, AC fins, mailbox and torn window screens.
  4. Interior damage, if any, with photos and moisture readings.

If the answer is no

Ask for the denial in writing with the policy language it relies on, then request a reinspection with new evidence. Disputes over cause need more proof; disputes over the amount can go to appraisal.
